Three MPS teams picked to compete at National Showcase Soccer Tournaments
Miami , September 2005 – Three MPS (Miami Premier Soccer Club) teams were picked to compete in two major national showcase tournaments this November: the 2005 CASL Shootout held in Raleigh, NC and the Tulsa Soccer Cup held in Tulsa, OK.
Miami Premier’s U-17 and U-14 girls were the only two teams from the Dade County area which were accepted to attend the prestigious and highly respected CASL Shootout which draws highly competitive girls and boys teams from all over the country to showcase their soccer skills to as many as 600 recruiting college coaches. Out of a total of 1,200 applicants, the only 2 teams to have been chosen from Dade County were the MPS girls’ teams. MPS, Dade County’s oldest female soccer organization, has a long-standing tradition attending this well-known tournament, but this is the first time that the club will be represented by two of its teams in different age groups.
Miami Premier’s U-16 girls was the only team from Florida accepted to participate at the Tulsa Soccer Cup, also held in November, where they will compete against teams from 3 different states while being seen by more than 200 college coaches from different divisions.
Part of Miami Premier’s mission is to provide the highest level of competitive soccer for girls who possibly intend to play at the collegiate level, helping those interested in obtaining scholarships. Attending tournaments such as the CASL Shootout and the Tulsa Soccer Cup helps older players gain exposure to recruiting college coaches. Since its inception, MPS has been able to send a total of 47 female soccer players to colleges and universities by actively helping them “be scouted” by college coaches at major tournaments such as these.
10 out of the 13 seniors who played in last season’s graduating U18 MPS team were recruited by major colleges/universities and offered full scholarships or financial assistance due to their participation in Miami Premier Soccer.
